“Monday Motivation!”

“If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying?
If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?”
~ Shantideva

I’m not sure if you have arrived at the right place today. You might be hard pressed to find Monday Motivation here at BloggerNewbie.

The last few weeks have been rough to say the least. My 2 yr old grandson has been in remission for a little over 10 months and we had become accustomed to thinking about cancer only once or twice a day. Unfortunately, it is back and the “C” word consumes our thoughts and lives by the minute.

I found today’s quote while searching for wisdom and it certainly makes sense. Today it doesn’t make me feel much better, but it makes sense.

I tried to get motivated. It just wouldn’t come. It didn’t matter what I said to myself, I just couldn’t. I reminded myself of all the reasons why I needed to be positive. I gave myself a long talking to. It just wasn’t happening.

I have fallen off the perky pedestal. (On the inside).

I will keep trying to get up because that is my personality. Some “won’t give up – keep moving – no matter what” (annoying sometimes) characteristic deeply embedded in my soul. I try to ignore it, believe me, over the years, I have tried to cover up my head and stay in bed but whatever it is (in hindsight – thank goodness most of the time) deep inside, it just will not let me lay there.

I have written posts about Drake and his journey in the past under I don’t know where to begin. There is also a website set up at Caring Bridge – Drake Gratton that chronicles his story and thoughts from family and friends. Caring Bridge is a great not-for-profit site that allows our family the ease of keeping everyone updated.

So for today’s Monday Motivation – I must point you towards the reliable archives!

In Order To Succeed

January 26, 2009 by BloggerNewbie

Monday Motivation!”

In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.
~ Bill Cosby

I read this quote earlier this week and have given it a lot of thought.

Success is simple. You just have to want it.  Really want it. When you want something and focus on your goal, and take action towards your goal, you will have success.  Well, that sounds simple.  I can do that.

If success is so simple then why doesn’t everyone have success?

That dreaded 4-letter word. Fear is an emotion that all people have as a defense in response to potential danger.  The problem arises when potential danger is misjudged. A small amount of fear can be helpful.  It can keep you focused.

However, excessive fear can be crippling.  If your fear is out of control or unrealistic, it can escalate to a point where it affects your day to day living. Fear is no longer effective if we are constantly afraid of events that haven’t even happened yet.

Has fear stopped you from obtaining success?  What are you afraid of?  Is your fear realistic?  Have you analyzed your fears?

Change Your Thoughts

January 19, 2009 by BloggerNewbie

Monday Motivation!”

“Change your thoughts and you change your world…”
~ Norman Vincent Peale

If you reflect on this quote with a little attention you will realize the significance of these words.

Some days and some circumstances make it a little difficult to change your thoughts but if you want to then you will. Everyone has had “one of those” starts to the day.  You get out of bed, stub your toe, drop everything you pick up, you know the kind of morning that sets the tone for the day.

It doesn’t have to set the tone for the day.  Sit down for a minute.  Collect yourself.  Take a deep breath and ask yourself  “do I really want my whole day to be like this?”  You can have a good day if you want to have a good day. You might need a few minutes to convince yourself that today is going to be a good day, but you can do it!   And it is never too late.

If you notice half way through the day that it is not quite going the way you would like, change your thoughts and you will change your world. It works everytime for everyone.

Try it today.  Be aware of your thoughts, don’t encourage negative feelings, focus on happy!  You control your thoughts.  Nothing or no-one is in control of you but you.  Finally!  Doesn’t it feel good?  You and you alone are responsible for who you are and what you are.

Change your thoughts and you will change your world.

What do you think?  Have you tried this concept?

You Cannot Get Ahead

January 12, 2009 by BloggerNewbie

“Monday Motivation!”

“You cannot get ahead while you are getting even…”

~ Dick Armey

I just love Monday Motivation !

For those of you who aren’t aware of the process of picking and choosing the quote for this series, let me explain. I subscribe to BrainyQuote’s quote of the day.  Every day in the footer section of my blog a random quote is listed with the author.  I keep track of the quotes for the week and choose the one that resonates with me the most.  So many Mondays I want to start out each discussion with “isn’t that the truth” and this week is certainly no different.

It is so transparent to me that people who are so busy and so wrapped up in getting even with someone are more miserable than their intended target.  They are reliving whatever wrong was done to them over and over again.  The offender doesn’t even know you are plotting and scheming your attack against them.

I just don’t have the time or energy for revenge.   Revenge takes a lot of time and work.  You have to plot your scheme carefully.  I’m not above wishful thinking as long as it doesn’t last very long.

You already went through the injustice once, it is a real shame to keep it.

Other than reliving the violation time and again, it also consumes you.  If you need to work off some anger or aggression go for a run or join a gym.  Getting even keeps you from getting ahead.

Remember, it is fine to do a little wishful thinking for a short time.  It is my belief that what goes around comes around.  Yeah, I know sometimes it seems like it takes too long.  But my wishful thinking is that most people will get what they deserve.

Channel your energy into positive outlets and you will feel better.  You will feel good about yourself for letting go of the wrong doing and you will feel better for doing something positive.  Focus on you!

If what goes around comes around don’t you want to give good so you can get good?

Courage is

January 5, 2009 by BloggerNewbie

“Monday Motivation!”

“Courage is grace under pressure…”

~ Ernest Hemingway

I had heard this quote before but had never really given it much thought.

It was not until I actually witnessed courage and  grace first hand that I knew what courage really was.

I can honestly say that I didn’t have a clue what courage really was. One can never realize what they are capable until until they are put under fire.

My middle daughter, Danielle,  has always been a girly girl.  When she was growing up, that was her personality.

~  She didn’t like to get dirty

~ She would run like a girl

~ She made sure her hair was perfect while she was playing basketball

Nothing wrong with being a girly girl.  I, myself, have girly girl moments.  Not very often as I don’t have that many opportunities.

My definition of being a girly girl also encompasses being a little whiny, a little fragile, a little dependent.  You know, the kind of person that doesn’t like to even go shopping by herself.  The kind of  “girl” that conveniently doesn’t know how to do the things she doesn’t want to do.

All of that is a memory of someone else.  Not my Danielle.  She is no girly girl.

Humans!  They are amazing.

It is fascinating to me the strength and courage that people have under the most adverse situations.

I Don”t Know Where To Begin.  I can only say that any and every parent’s worst nightmare happened to Danielle.  Her baby, 10 months old at the time, had become seriously ill.

The courage and grace with which Danielle exhibited during this ordeal is beyond words.  For a young mom who had never experienced any real difficulties, she somehow found what she needed to keep everything together.  She was luckier than some, she didn’t have to do it alone.  She has a great husband and a devoted extended family.

She definitely has courage.

Do you know of people who have impressed you or even surprised you with their hidden courage?

The Longer I Live

December 29, 2008 by BloggerNewbie

“Monday Motivation!”

The longer I live, the more beautiful life becomes.

~ Frank Lloyd Wright

Isn’t that the truth? I guess you just appreciate the little things when you get older.  I don’t know.  Seems to be that way for me.

I like to concentrate on the little things.  The little things is what life is all about.

“They say” – the  older you get, the more money you make, the more stuff you want?

I am actually the opposite. Downsize the “stuff”.

Instead of getting the big house, we decided to downsize. We don’t need the 3000 square foot home.  We actually downsized to about a 1000 square foot home.  A little too small.  We are building a new home and my husband originally wanted small, around 1200 square foot but we have decided on about 1500.  Storage room is a must.  No, not for stuff.  We need storage room for seasonal items, pantry type items, etc.

The big SUV?  Nope, don’t need that either.  Little Ford Taurus gets me back and forth to work the whole 2 miles.

We prefer to concentrate on family, friends, the warm sun, the green grass.  We would rather not have to stress over the big stuff and have to worry about how we are going to pay for all that stuff.

I like to concentrate on the little things.  The little things is what life is all about.

  • Those pretty flowers,  that nice apple tree, fresh cut grass…
  • And right now, even the fresh new fallen snow.
  • A baby giggling, Kenny G’s saxophone, a little guy calling you Granny.

The older you become the more calm you become.   That is so true. You get to a point when you know it’s not worth it to sweat the small stuff.

Have you found that the longer you live the more beautiful life becomes?  What wisdom has life given you?
