“The best way to predict the future is to create it.”

~ Peter Drucker

You are the creator of your future.  Success does not just happen.

Success does not have time for guessing or wishful thinking.  Just creating.  Successful people don’t get where they are by just thinking they would like to be successful.  They know they are successful.  They know what to do and they know how to do it.

Certainly, the thought of success comes first.   Plenty of thoughts.  The plan emerges.  There is a goal.  The goal is the future.

Just thinking, just wishing and even just knowing what to do is not going to make it happen.  Knowledge is useless! Knowing what to do – in and of itself – is useless You need action.  You need a focused plan and you need a process.  A step by step action plan to accomplish your goal.

Do you sit around and wait for your future to happen?  Do you take what comes your way? Are you a dreamer or a doer?

Or are you the creator of your future?

Monday Motivation

“Monday Motivation!”

“Life is ten percent what happens to you
and ninety percent how you respond to it.”
Lou Holtz

Hmm, that quote made me think.  That is so true and really resonates with me, especially over the last 5 yrs or so.

My family has always been the core of my strength.  No matter what and I mean what, any of us do, any of us say, we are always there for each other, yes no matter what.  My family is unique in this way.  Unlike any family I have ever known.

My mom raised all eight of us (poor soul) by herself.  No parents, no siblings, and you got it – no spouse.  She taught us a few things for sure.

One - Your family will always be your family.  Friends will come and go, but your family will always be your family.  Your friends may run at the first sign of need, but your family – they will always be there.

Two - You have to work.  You don’t feel well, dinner still needs to be prepared, so what.  You are tired, the driveway still needs to be shoveled, so what.  You will live.  There are just some things you have to do.  Too many people are counting on you.  Get your “stuff” done, then rest.

Three – You have five minutes to feel sorry for yourself.  Get over it.  Yesterday is gone.  Nothing you can do about it.  Can’t change it.  There are no do overs and no excuses.  Excuses won’t get you anywhere.   The important thing is – “What are you going to do now?  What is your plan for the next step?  How are you going to fix it or move forward?”

With the security of family as your base, there is nothing you can’t accomplish.  If work is just a natural part of your personality then you expect nothing less of yourself.  And the feel sorry for yourself part – I always wanted more but she just wouldn’t let me.  No time for that.  You aren’t going to be productive with self-pity.  I smile when I think about that sometimes.  She still does it today.  She just won’t let me whine about anything.  Probably why my nickname is Mary Sunshine.

So yes, Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it.

Thank you Mom for that wisdom and that attitude.  It has brought me this far in life, through a few traumas and dramas and has even pushed me out of bed a few times.

Do you have the “Can do” attitude?  Do you spend too much time blaming others or other things for life’s dealings? Do you believe in the attitude making all the difference?

Success Is Simple

December 8, 2008 by BloggerNewbie

Success is simple. Do what’s right, the right way, at the right time.
- Arnold H. Glasow

Okay, now we know the fundamentals to achieve success.  No more questions, the answer is unmistakable.  No objection here.

The primary focus now would be to figure out – what is right.

I would say what feels right is right.  Listen to your inside voice.  If it feels like hard work, then it is probably not right.  If you are happy and it feels effortless, then you are on the right path.

Well we accomplished the what, now we need to figure out the how – the right way.

The right way will show itself.  You will find the way.  If it presents itself as too difficult then it is not the right way.  you will just know.

We know the what and the how all we have to do is execute our plan at just the right time.

The time is right when you are ready and not one minute before.  If you are pressured to execute your plan too soon or you are hesitant, then it not the right time.  If you are not confident that it is the right time then you will be apprehensive and it will show.

Success is simple.  If you feel it, you have it.  Success is distinct to each individual.  Success means different things to different people.  What does success mean to you?

We Lie Loudest When..

December 1, 2008 by BloggerNewbie

“Monday Motivation!”

We lie loudest when we lie to ourselves.

- Eric Hoffer

Isn’t that the truth!  No pun intended.  I have always wondered how exactly do people lie to themselves?  When you lie to others, you are quite possibly the only one who knows the difference. But when you lie to yourself?  How can that be, you know the truth.  So how can you lie to yourself?

Unfortunately, you can lie to yourself easily,   When you don’t want to do something, you can conveniently convince yourself that you aren’t capable of doing it.  It’s too hard, or you don’t have time right now and you have other more important things to do, etc.  Frequently, your lies are excuses.

Do you lie to yourself if you are afraid to do something, afraid of failure?  You lie to yourself and say you didn’t really want to do that anyway.

Often, when the opportunity has passed, you are sorry that you lied to yourself.  One of those moments you regret.  Do you want to look back over your life and have regrets?  Inevitably, we all have regrets.  Some can be avoided.  Take a chance, believe in yourself.  You owe it to yourself.

Can you tell when you are lying to yourself?  Are they often disguised as excuses?  Or are they actually the loudest when we lie to ourselves?
