EntreCard – Yes, No or Maybe?
I am not sure yet. I have been a member probably long enough that I should know but I just haven’t made up my mind yet. There are so many different social networks that I haven’t really had enough time to give EntreCard a fair evaluation.
So what is EntreCard? EntreCard is an advertising network. The more popular your blog, the more it costs to advertise on your blog. You earn EntreCard credits every time you go to a blog that participates in the EntreCard network and you “drop” your card. Hopefully, you drop your card, then you click on the ad to go to the next blog that participates in EntreCard.
Some people say that EntreCard inflates your visitor numbers. That most EntreCard members just run around “dropping” cards to increase their credits to advertise on other blogs. These visitors just go to your blog to drop their card then they in turn, get advertising credits. They aren’t interested in your blog and don’t have any intention on staying or looking around.
While others say that EntreCard gets the visitor to your blog and it is up to the blogger to keep them there or get them back. I guess there is a point in this philosophy.
From what I have seen (again, without spending enough time to fairly evaluate) EntreCard does encourage mass visits. If most bloggers are like me, and I believe they are, they do not have excess time to spare for browsing on blogs out of our niche.? Some bloggers will click from one ad to another to get a few EC credits. Some blogs just aren’t in your interest range so no matter how great they are, they are not going to stay very long on a blog that is out of their interest range.
Check out EntreCard and visit BloggerNewbie and let me know what you think.

Hi Dee. I do get quite a few visitors from there .. plus a very high bounce rate. I’ve been on it for about a month and a do ‘drop-hop’ around 10 cards a day. I have found several blogs that I now read regularly from EC and I do have several regulars to my site who found me through EC. I spend very little time on EC (maximum 10 minutes a day) and my sense is that the ‘payback’ in terms of the returning visitors has been well worth it. I can’t imagine that I’d get much more out of it by investing more time in – for exactly the reasons you say. Ian
First and Foremost Congrats Dee for winning 1st place in the December contest over at AverageGal!
I’m glad that you posted about EntreCard. I’ve been exploring this social site recently and have yet to join. It looks like a clever idea, however your point about possible card dropping and leaving is very valid and one of my main concerns. I look forward to reading the comments that others leave!

Haven’t tried this before, let me try it for the week and then I’l come back and vote

Ian:
I really haven’t given EntreCard enough attention to have it “all figured out”. Finding different blogs you like and having readers come back to your blog is the whole idea for me. It is unrealistic for anyone to think that all visitors will all be subscribers.
Rachel:
Thank you for sponsoring the contest. It was one of my favorite kind of contests – easy!
Check out my profile on EntreCard and look around, you will get a better idea of what it’s all about. It seems to be a nice advertising arena.
Ciara:
It takes a little time to get around the site and get the hang of the program but it seems to have potential. Let me know what you think.
Hi Dee.
Being a strong minded and firm decision maker, I’m going to give this a solid…
Maybe.
I’ll spend some time kind of poking around. It does sound intriguing. I’ll let ya know!

I like Ian’s philosophy and experience with EntreCard. I guess in the perfect world, all of our efforts would be rewarded 10 fold. If that were the case, we would only need a few social networks instead of too many
I guess, what else would we be doing with all our time? I would be interested to know what you think so make sure you stop back with your report! Thanks.
I voted “maybe” because I haven’t heard of it before until yesterday here. I guess Ill try it after I figure out how to create a 125×125 image to upload (I’m sure that will take another 12 hours
)

ha ha! I had the same problem! I googled image search and found my 125 x 125! Not real creative but that’s what I could do with the time I had. Val [aka - Natural] really likes EntreCard. She could probably give you a better review.
it’s fun to use and find new blogs, but the 300 drop “requirement” should be lowered to 200. lots of people are leaving…i’m thinking about it.

Natural:
What is the drop requirement?
Hello,
Dropping card at other sites is as much about letting them know about my interest/continued interest in their site as also serving an invitation to them to visit me. Earning credits is the third in priority. For now, at least for me.
If I run a blog, it is public and I want to read and be read, whatever the reservations, Entrecard is the best service I thought.
I stay focused by dropping only at sites that interest me or are from the identical category or one closest. I also realized that surfing for and dropping at sites works more effectively for me than using credits earned, for advertising. So you see, I earn/accumulate credits but do not chase them. Engaging with sites that dropped on me and dropping at their sites in reality has helped build community of mutual followers, for me.
Irrespective of the number that is supposed to indicate the popularity of a site in terms of advertising on it, I pick my sites for mutual interest and even if the success in engaging the accomplished bloggers looked daunting initially, perseverance paid off!
Those are the views and ‘Yes’ for the poll, notwithstanding the fact that a few posts on my blog [http://www.evolveever.com/2008/11/where-is-the-key-to-entry-card/ and http://www.evolveever.com/2008/11/am-i-too-dumb/ were written simply to focus on some annoying [at least for me, again] issues with Entrecard.

Pushhyarag:
I will definitely check out those two posts. Like I said, I am not completely familiar with EntreCard but would like to learn more, the intent etc. before I actually voice an opinion. I am still at maybe. That is the problem with SO many social networks, which one is the most effective, of course that depends on what you are looking for, and can you find all you are looking for in only a few networks?? so overwhelming!
I have found many new blogs via Entrecard that I now subscribe to.
(And I probably wouldn’t have found them, if not for Entrecard.)
For me, it’s the whole DROPPING CARDS thing that is tedious …

Dawn:
I like the block ads feature of EntreCard, I haven’t really pursued the whole dropping card duty. I have found some great blogs via Entrecard as well. More than half the time I forget how I find a blog which would be helpful to the marketing end of blogging but you know how the internet is.
