“Who Reads A Blog On A Cell Phone?”

cellphone

Do people actually read blogs on a cell phone?? I don’t know about you, but my cell phone is barely big enough to read text messages. I cannot imagine reading a whole post on a cell phone.  Come on – I must be missing something!  I actually don’t have internet access with my cell phone.  Well, if I do, I don’t know it.  I know, technically challenged.  Well to the blogosphere I am technically challenged but to my family and people in my little world I am an esteemed computer geek!

So what could be so important that you would read a post on your phone?  Is there really anything  that interesting or compelling?

Probably 10 years from now you will read a post on BloggerNewbie promoting – “Extra, extra, read all about it, get your next BloggerNewbie post on your cellphone today!”get-connected

Some people think if the cell phone rings they have to answer it. When I work outside clearing our property, mowing lawns, trimming around everyone of our 100 trees, I always have my cell phone.  This type of activity is my therapy.  Usually there is no one around, I have my loud equipment and large tools.  So why the cell phone in my serene environment of nature?  Well I do have some dangerous equipment I work with so the phone is for “just in case”.  I never answer it during my nature therapy.

Caller ID?  he he.  I know way too many people who can’t stand an unknown number on their phone.  Or if there is a phone number they don’t recognize, they call it.  If you can’t leave a message, then whatever you want (and yeah, most likely you want something) can’t be that important, or you will call back.

I’ve had friends or family members tell me they called, they must have shown up on my caller id, why didn’t I call them back?  Because you didn’t leave a message.  And, this is so and so, call me back, is not a message.

Are we getting just a little too connected?  Do you think access to information 24/7 is a little too much?  I feel inundated now.  I have enough stress without bringing more with me.  If posts are available on your cell phone do you or would you read them that way?

Toodles – Blog Happy!

i agree with you that i barely have enough room for a text message nevermind an entire blog post. But some phones do have a large screen. Either way i dont think i’d be reading posts on my phone.

  2. Danielle:

I noticed that some blogs had links that the post was available to read on your cell phone?? Yes, some cell phones even advertise watching TV? Isn’t that a bit much? How connected do you really have to be, are you really that important?

  3. I think maybe travelers use their phones to access the internet. And then there is the whole iPhone crowd – I’m sure they are accessing the Internet via their phone.

I had a web plan for my phone but I found it annoying to use and I didn’t really need it so I canceled it. I’m rarely away from a computer anyway.

Hmmmm my phone’s a little small for that kind of thing.. perhaps if I had an i-phone! I’m not really into browsing the web on small digital gadgets at this stage, could see myself getting into it if the speed / technology was up to it though….

  5. Kim – If I was expecting something very important, yes, I would use my cell phone, but for everyday use? Can’t see it. The iPhone is not available in my area, we will get it in another few years, but doesn’t look that big!

Ross – or maybe if you could attach your phone to a bigger screen or something?? Maybe I should patent that idea? Can’t think of too many things that are that important.

I read blogs on my cell phone. I have a Blackberry Curve with Viigo on it. Viigo is a kin to Google reader or any other RSS reader. I can read just about any blog on my cell phone, including yours. I like being able to read blogs on my cell phone for times when I may have a moment or two at work or if I am out of the state and don’t have my computer.

  7. CJ,

You just have internet access and pull up your reader to view blogs? Or do you go directly to the site? I am very curious to know how comfortable reading on your cell phone is.

    Dee-

The reader, Viigo, is a stand alone program I downloaded to my Blackberry. It is like a desktop icon if you will. Every morning I open it up and viola! there are my RSS feeds that I like to read. The size of my screen is 320×240 pixels. Granted the screen is much smaller than that of a monitor, but I do not find it hindering my ability to read a blog post.

  9. CJ,

I might just be writing about how great cell phones are to read blog posts before 10 years but probably not any time soon. I would really like to see it though.

Actually I have to say much to my shame I recently got the Samsung Instinct from Sprint and I have been reading my blog on it, checking comments and states and what not….

But I think I would only read other blogs if I were truly hard pressed for something to do.

he he, I haven’t seen any phone that I would be able to read a post on. Up here in the Adirondack Mountains we don’t have too many choices.

Can you reply to comments or leave comments on other blogs? What about all the ads and graphics, do they show up too?

  12. Ian Peatey says:

Dee. I have a confession! I am the proud owner of a 2 week old iPhone – the main reason I got it was so I could surf while I travel.

Up to now I’m pretty disciplined with my old phone. I treat it in a similar way to meetings .. people I know can drop in any-time but not anyone else. If I don’t recognise a number, not only do I not return the call, I won’t even answer it in the first place (unless pre-agreed). I consider it an invasion of my privacy .. in fact it’s on silent most of the time as I don’t want to be available 24/7 …

However the iPhone may change everything! Your post has got me worried! Ian

  13. I am going to have to research this iPhone a little further. When it first came out it was not available in our area. Most people that know me think I am addicted to the internet now, what would happen if I had an iPhone? I can hear an intervention.

I am one of those who reads blog on my cell phone. I have an i-phone. I enjoy being able to read blogs on my cell phone when I am out and about.

  15. So you are “one of those”! I am really torn about just being too connected. too reachable! eventually we will have no reason not to be available or be away from work even. makes me nervous, not to mention my screen is about 1 inche wide by 1 1/2 inches high! Not going to happen!

Although many people do read blogs on their cell phones, i don’t like to. Partly because of the speed which i don’t get.

  17. I think the real world has arrived in the north country of upstate New York. Rumor has it that the iPhone may be available shortly. I may just check it out and be able to post from the other side!
