“Monday Motivation!”

“Life is ten percent what happens to you
and ninety percent how you respond to it.”
Lou Holtz

Hmm, that quote made me think.  That is so true and really resonates with me, especially over the last 5 yrs or so.

My family has always been the core of my strength.  No matter what and I mean what, any of us do, any of us say, we are always there for each other, yes no matter what.  My family is unique in this way.  Unlike any family I have ever known.

My mom raised all eight of us (poor soul) by herself.  No parents, no siblings, and you got it – no spouse.  She taught us a few things for sure.

One - Your family will always be your family.  Friends will come and go, but your family will always be your family.  Your friends may run at the first sign of need, but your family – they will always be there.

Two - You have to work.  You don’t feel well, dinner still needs to be prepared, so what.  You are tired, the driveway still needs to be shoveled, so what.  You will live.  There are just some things you have to do.  Too many people are counting on you.  Get your “stuff” done, then rest.

Three – You have five minutes to feel sorry for yourself.  Get over it.  Yesterday is gone.  Nothing you can do about it.  Can’t change it.  There are no do overs and no excuses.  Excuses won’t get you anywhere.   The important thing is – “What are you going to do now?  What is your plan for the next step?  How are you going to fix it or move forward?”

With the security of family as your base, there is nothing you can’t accomplish.  If work is just a natural part of your personality then you expect nothing less of yourself.  And the feel sorry for yourself part – I always wanted more but she just wouldn’t let me.  No time for that.  You aren’t going to be productive with self-pity.  I smile when I think about that sometimes.  She still does it today.  She just won’t let me whine about anything.  Probably why my nickname is Mary Sunshine.

So yes, Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it.

Thank you Mom for that wisdom and that attitude.  It has brought me this far in life, through a few traumas and dramas and has even pushed me out of bed a few times.

Do you have the “Can do” attitude?  Do you spend too much time blaming others or other things for life’s dealings? Do you believe in the attitude making all the difference?

    Wise mother!

Unfortunately I don’t have the security of family, but friends do make up for that. They have been there when family wasn’t. They are what they are – family in name only. I still love them though.

I honestly spend too much time blaming myself for everything and its a lot of work to crawl out of that.

It is a lot of work to stop blaming others or yourself. Doesn’t really get you anywhere. I do the same thing, stress over bad decisions. That can keep you in a bad place. I try to learn from it and forge ahead.

I felt no. 2 last night. I was too tired to work, at home, but I had to continue….others depend on me to get stuff done. Had to do it and no I didn’t die, but I wanted to. Instead I went to sleep. No. 3 is excellent. We call it the pity corner, you can sit there for a little while, but you cannot stay. I’m a moody person, so I have my moments when I’m down in the dumps but there is no long periods of moping. Change it or get over it is right.

I couldn’t agree with you more.. because thats exactly how you raised me. I look at each example and i’m like yup been there. lol

You’ve heard that whole story? Like mother, like daughter. I still remember when I turned into my mother!
