“The harder I work, the luckier I get.”
-Samuel Goldwyn
Hmmm, how does that happen? So if I want to be lucky, all I need to do is work harder? I can do that. I like to be lucky so I think I will try that work harder theory.
I guess maybe it is human nature that people think a successful person is just real lucky. “Look at her, she is so lucky”. They don’t want to admit that possibly the successful person has actually worked for every achievement. If they say that out loud then they might have to take responsibility for their own lack of luck!
It is highly unusual for opportunity to actually come knocking at your door. I think you are the one that needs to go knocking. Sure, opportunity can find you if you are lucky. And by lucky, you of course have already sent out feelers with your hard work. I don’t really want to be the one to tell you, to be the bearer of bad news, but the fairy godmother or Aladdin’s lamp are just stories. Sorry. I guess it is time for plan “b” so you might have to revert back to good ole’ fashion work.
Have any of your successes been luck? Or possibly a combination of effort and being in the right place at the right time?

I totally agree. No one is that lucky to be standing in the right place at the right time. A whole bunch of work went into that person being where they are in life. Thing is, nobody wants to work for it (that luck) just want it to fall out of the sky. It will never happen.

@ Natural
Exactly – it’s the poor my syndrome, get up and do something. I really get that from my mother. Low tolerance of self-pity. I understand a little but, let’s go, fix it, try something, anything!
Hi there… That sad old complaint “He/she gets all the luck” is still one that I hear very frequently.. Ever since reading Richard Branson’s books I’ve knocked that theory on the head well and truly. Hard work and looking for opportunities is a much better approach than waiting for a magic wad of cash to drop out of the sky onto your lap!
@ Ross
Isn’t that the truth. I am not afraid of hard work, I don’t know if that is something you are born with or something you are taught. I certainly get that from my mamma. No harder worker around. No luck there!
I’ve been winning contest prizes, but not so much by luck as by making loads of comments. You make your own luck.

WitchyPoo – yeah and the person that leaves one comment envies you because you are so lucky! Some people don’t want to be lucky, too much like work.
