Blogger Burnout

“Blogger Burnout”

Do you have Blogger Burnout? You’ve been blogging for months and you barely get any visitors. The few visitors you do get, don’t bother to leave a comment. What are you doing wrong? You are working so hard, why are things not coming together? Do you feel like you are talking to yourself? Blogger Burnout is discouraging.

How do you recognize Blogger Burnout?

Are you easily distracted when you are trying to compose or finish a post?

Do you find other important tasks to do instead of writing?

Is it hard for you to convince yourself to start or finish a post?

Does just the mention of blogging causes you to feel irritable or anxious?

If you answered yest to any of the above questions you might be suffering from Blogger Burnout!

What do you do to get out of this burnout phase?

“Don’t Panic!”

Don’t get discouraged and feel like you want to quit. Your are putting too much pressure on yourself. If you feel you need to post everyday, revisit your posting schedule. Maybe everyday is too much for you and your time right now.

Revisit your niche? Maybe it is too difficult to come up with topics in the niche you picked. Writing should flow naturally. It shouldn’t always feel like work. On occasion maybe but if it always feels like work you need to rethink your niche topic.

“Take a break!”

Get some perspective, and see if that helps. Try to determine the source of your stress, and change it–transfer your stress. It is often much more productive to outsource something then to spend too much time and frustration on a task. It may just well be worth the money! Sanity? Money? You choose.

“RELAX - ENJOY”

Avoiding burnout usually comes down to recognizing the source. What part of blogging do you have the most difficulty with? There is a great discussion going on over at (Anti) Social Development - What is your least favorite part of blogging?

Don’t compare your blog to others. Especially blogs that have been around awhile. One of the first things to realize about blogging - it all takes time. It takes time to build up content, readers, rank, etc. Remember the reason you started blogging. Review the 5 P’s of a Successful Blogger! Renew your passion! You had it to start with, you still have it!

What do you do to revitalize your blogging? How do you bring back the passion?

  1. There’s no doubt that I’m using a rather narcissistic way of writing and leaving comments in blogs. I kinda have some sorta burn out at times when I wonder whether if I’m like falling down the rabbit hole of doing the same blog promotion thingy that I’m sure many hundreds are receiving.

    But.

    It’s all fun! :)

I think you’ve hit on a couple key areas here - keeping positive and not getting discouraged on days where your site has very few visitors is important. I’ve decided to devote a specific period of time to the blog regardless of visitors, then reassess it after that period etc.. This helps get the focus off “how many people are visiting” and more onto “I’ve got 1 month of blogging to go until I rethink my approach / niche etc”. Also, I’ve had to readjust my post frequency - started a bit strong posting every day initially, have slipped into a more comfortable every 2nd day routine at this stage..

As long as you are still having fun, that’s the main reason we blog. Sometimes it takes time to get a rhythm.

    @ Ross

I used to pay attention to the numbers but they were making me crazy so now I just write. Whatever posting frequency is comfortable to you is what you should concentrate on. Your readers will get accustomed to it. If you post everyday because you think you should your readers will be able to tell.

I often encounter blogger burnout. Then I decided I was going to widen my scope, trying to stay within a predetermined “niche” was caging me. Now I can blog about whatever is on my mind….

Hello! I did the same thing. I was going to write primarily about blogging, but there are already too many blogs about blogs so I thought I would add a little positive attitude type writing. I have studied positive attitude theories for 30 years so I thought I could add to that! I am not sure if these two topics mesh well, but oh well! Most times we all need some positive attitudes toward blogging so there you go!

Sometimes just writing through the slump gets your mojo back. That’s what I’m hoping for anyway.

It’s funny, sometime when I am writing a post and I think part of the way through that maybe I just don’t have enough to say about this subject then the post takes off and it’s one of my longer posts! Thanks for stopping by.

I think it’s real important to get a break and reflect on something that really inspires you. I’ll have phases where I’m a little fried and things don’t seem to be going my way. If I take the time to do something else for a while, invariably I get post inspired. Inspired, passionate posts are always the best, and we should always put our best stuff out there.

Hmmm. Tryin’ to figure out how to wrangle PTSD in here some how. (POST-Traumatic Stress Disorder) Hehe

    Cheers

  10. @ George - you are a blogging geek!

My problem at this point is that I have too many ideas coming at me from every direction. I can’t concentrate or focus for any length of time. I hope I can harness that enthusiasm and passion.
