“It Feels SO Good!”
It feels SO good yet, it is so hard to convince yourself you actually want to do it!
Maybe it’s not so much that you can convince yourself you really want to do it but; more like you really should do it. But if feels wonderful! So how can something that feels so wonderful be so hard to convince yourself to do? You would think feeling wonderful would be incentive enough.
There are a few key factors that you need to implement to enjoy these wonderful benefits.
Oh yeah, WHAT is it that feels so good? Exercise. It really does. Don’t click away. I promise – the hints below will be helpful to you!
“How do make yourself WANT to exercise?”
First, pick something fun:
Find something you like to do. There is such a negative association with exercise. It shouldn’t be. Sports activities are exercise. Try golf – there isn’t any negative connotation with golf. That is too much fun. Time consuming though. You really need to find an activity that you can do easily, regularly, maybe regardless of the weather.
I LOVE to walk. It’s not too strenuous, you can do it anywhere, it doesn’t cost anything. You can still get great benefits from walking even if you only have 15 minutes to spare.
I like to walk every morning. It jump starts my day. Sometimes I have to drag myself but after about 5 minutes I forgot I didn’t feel like it. I find all kinds of excuses not to walk outside though.
- I don’t want to comb my hair
- I am not wearing sweats in public
- It’s too cold; the weather is not very nice
- The dog two houses down is not real fond of me
So I bought a treadmill and I use it almost every day. It's not a chore to me. It does take a little time to develop a routine though. Once you have a set time when you walk it becomes a habit.
Walking is something you can enjoy by yourself and also an activity you can enjoy with company. When I walk on my treadmill at home, I want complete solitude. Do not bother me. I do not want to visit, I'm not going to answer the phone and I definitely don't want kids coming in with their drama. This walk is my ME time.
When my kids were little they were told they could only come in my room if it was important. Of course we all know I had to define important to them. "Only come in my room if someone is bleeding or the house is on fire." I rarely got interrupted.
Second, review the benefits:
If you have a list of all the great benefits you will derive from exercise it will motivate you to get started. I always try to convince myself that I will be thankful later.
Exercise or physical activity releases endorphins that just make you happy!
- Feels so good
- More energy
- Eliminates the 3:00 pm afternoon slump
It doesn’t take long for the benefits to show up. You gain a little bounce in your step as well as an increase in fitness. Doesn’t it just Feel SO Good!
Do you have a regular fitness routine? What keeps you motivated? What benefits do you enjoy the most?

Its the first initial “i need to exercise” that i can’t start. lol
Do you have a regular fitness routine? What keeps you motivated? What benefits do you enjoy the most? I have spurts of regular fitness routine. Once I fall out of the habit, it’s hard to get back into it. I like exercise, once I start doing it, it’s just the doing it and when I do it. Maybe the first thing in the morning is probably best. I like to have someone to exercise with, that keeps me motivated. It does give you energy and it feels good, then I have all this energy that I need to uh, burn off.
Natural’s last blog post..Answering Comments: Obligation, Optional or Off?
@ Danielle
starting is the hardest part. Even though you KNOW you are going to feel so good! I usually look forward to it because it is MY time but sometimes I guess I’m not in the mood.
@ Natural
I walk almost every morning. If I am out of the routine I start off with a half hour walk and build up to a one hour walk. I stay motivated because I really do enjoy it – it’s my alone time. I have no responsibilities at the moment! I think I get a real big endorphin level increase because it just puts me in a better mood. The routine is difficult to schedule but once you do everything else just has to wait!
You’re right, there often are negative feelings associated with exercise!! I find that if I pick a method of exercise like walking, it’s great and makes me feel good afterwards, but difficult to consistently commit to (life gets in the way!). I’m more responsible when I join a team sport and have an obligation to be there! So currently I’m walking regularly (well, semi-regularly!), swimming, and I’ve just started my first season of 6-a-side outdoor soccer (heaps of fun!) It really does make you feel much better afterwards…
Ross’s last blog post..Why I’ve always hated goals
Good morning Ross:
I know I need exercise and/or fitness just like food and sleep so I try to think of it that way. Some days I accomplish my goals better than other days. I’m not that ambitious and I don’t want to commit alot of time so walking really works for me and it’s more beneficial than most people think. It’s certainly better than no exercise. When exercise if fun you don’t even know it’s exercise. I like to walk on my lunch hour alot too while I run errands so I double up my time!
