“Blogging Failure Plan”
Come on, who plans to fail? People do not plan to fail. But they fail to plan. That is such a corny cliche’. (Yeah, I admit it, I’m corny). Most little cliches’ are corny but they have a basis of truth to them.
Do you have a plan, a routine? Do you actually have a step by step list of tasks that you do every day? I have it written down, sort of, somewhere. I have all the things I want to do on a daily basis. There’s only one thing wrong with my plan (well maybe more than one thing).
The daily list of tasks is so large I need 10 hours a day to complete it. I don’t have 10 hours a day to commit to blogging. I wish I did. I aspire to but at this point I don’t have that luxury. I would even give 12 hours a day if I were able to blog full time. I am not afraid of work. That is not the issue.
There are so many tasks to do it can become overwhelming. Calm down, there are really only two tasks in blogging that are required. So what do you do? To begin with, the important order of business, is to prioritize.
-
I think I should make this ambition into a weekly project. I will write at least one post a week that has the list feature. I should be able to write a couple of posts a week that can link to other blogs. It is very feasible to write a “to do” post once a week.
The second issue with blogging is the social aspect. Information overload! Are you kidding me? I cannot believe the social networks available to a blogger wannabe. Whoah! Hello! Are you trying to hurt my brain? Again – I don’t have 10 hours a day to commit to blogging.
-
Once you choose the social networks you want to participate in, you need to focus on those choices. Do not spread yourself too thin. Quality is better than quantity. (There I go again with the corny!) You certainly can’t do it all! Unless of course you have those 10-12 hours a day to devote to social networks alone.
-
I wish I could give you the answer to how much social networking is enough. It all depends on how much time you have to pursue your social contacts. They are important and you need to be sincere with whatever or however much time you have. If you only have enough time for one, two or three networks, commit to them, DO NOT over extend yourself. There is nothing worse than a fake friend!
You’ve written the awesome posts, you participate in the social networks. People are starting to come to your blog and some are even leaving comments. Finally!
Now what? Well there are forums to visit and contribute to, and of course you need to visit your follower’s blogs and leave comments. If you want people to visit you and leave comments it only makes sense that you need to do the same.
Do you have to do these tasks on a daily basis? No, but you need to figure out how much time you can devote to blogging on say a weekly basis. Your tasks should be done on a consistent basis to be effective.
- Divide that time into daily allotments.
- List all of the tasks you feel you need to accomplish
- Figure out how much of your time slot each task will occupy
- Then you will be able to schedule your blogging activities over your weekly schedule
What do you do to stay on top of your blogging activities? What do you think are the required duties of a blogger?

Great advice! If you set your priorities, schedule time for them, divide the task into manageable chunks then you will accomplish your goals.

@ Kim
Exactly. There is literally “so much to do”! I tend to get discouraged if I can’t “do it all”! But I’ve learned to make it reasonable so I can do it all!
Figure out then divide, hey that’s a great idea. Sometimes my schedule works just great, other times stuff happens….writing down what needs to be done on paper is the thing that works best for me.

My problem is that I think I’m wonderwoman?? I put a weeks worth of stuff down for one day. Thinking of it as a weekly to do list helps. If it doesn’t get written down it doesn’t get done. Simple.
