“It’s All About The Numbers”
The blogosphere is a multitude of numbers! Everywhere you look there are meters and graders and counters. There are even as many badges to display your proud numbers as there are counters.
How many Twitter followers do you have? How many Diggs did your last post get? How many visitors did you have today, how many page views, what is your total for the week? What are your RSS feed numbers? How many comments do you get? What is your Tecnorati rank, Google rank, Alexa rank?
Achieving high numbers or low numbers as the case may be is a result of significant effort. But what do these numbers mean?
Chris Brogan writes - Blogging is not a numbers game or is it? Chris just hit a huge milestone! His RSS number hit 10,000 subscribers. An inspiring blogger such as myself can barely dream of that number! If his RSS is 10,000 what is his daily visitor number? KUDOS Chris!
But how many or how much is enough? Is there a formula that equals profit? What is the equation? If I have 3000 readers I will make $3000.00 a month? Is there such a formula or goal to strive for? How does one set a goal if there is not a formula? Chris said he is not making any more money with 10,000 readers then he was with 3,000 readers. How does one measure?
I am more productive with concrete numbers. 1 + 1 = 2. I know how to get to 2. I just get 1 then I get another 1 and that equals 2. That is not a difficult concept to accept. If my goal is to make $3,000.00 a month, how do I achieve that goal if there isn’t anything to measure?

Sorry for the delay in my reply. My host was sooo slow last nite, kept timing out! I’m switching servers this weekend - yikes. I’ve been told it is a simple process. Yeah, I’ve heard that before!
I guess the numbers are relevant as everything else. Compare some blogs who get 50,000+ readers and get 40-50 comments versus a blog with 1000 visitors and they get 10-20 comments? hmmm? Those numbers are elusive!
