6 Required WordPress Plugins

6 Required WordPress Plugins

There must literally be thousands of WordPress Plugins. I’ll bet you can jam your server by adding so many plugins. Plugins are options added to your WordPress software to enhance your blog. You can get plugins from Wordpress.org or from the many, many developers in the vast blogosphere. Google WordPress Plugins and you will get more answers then you will ever need.

I have 6 plugins that I consider required. I have seen the following plugins on most blogs I visit.

1. WordPress Automatic Upgrade

I can’t tell you how much time, energy and sanity this plugin has saved me. Truly one click upgrade. Everything went uninterrupted and it took less than a minute.

2. WordPress Database Backup

Back up, back up then back up. Have you ever lost files or programs because you didn’t take the time to back up? We have all had an experience to learn our lesson! This plugin is automatic. It sends the backup right to your email. What more could you ask for?

3. Reminder to Subscribe

If you don’t remind them, they might forget. If you have a reminder at the bottom of every brilliant post, they might just think it’s another one of your great ideas.

4. Related Post Plugin

I like this plugin because it’s another reminder. If you liked this post, you might just like these other posts. It expands your page view, keeps your readers on your blog longer and enables you to share more of you thoughts.

5. Article Template

I like this plugin too. I start all of my posts with a title in large red font. I use html to set up the size and color of the text. This template saves me the time of either copying and pasting or retyping the entire code every time. I also add a signature to all of my posts and use the same format to end my posts with a quote. Again, this plugin saves me the time of duplicating my signature.

6. Share This

After all the hard work you put into a post, getting people to subscribe and asking them to read additional related posts, your reader will definitely want to share your brilliance with all their friends!

Another WordPress plugin that is wonderful is actually a default plugin so it doesn’t count in my “6 Required WordPress Plugins”! Akismet - Spam catcher catches all the garbage comments that would be plastered on your blog. I can’t even begin to imagine all the annoyance this plugin saves.

What are your required plugins? What time savers do you use that we may not be aware of. Share people. Don’t keep helpful hints a secret!

I’m always for people who share, and BloggerNewbie is one of them. That’s why she’s such a great friend. I use plugins and I can tell you that she’s presented the absolutely essential ones here. I think there should be a detailed guide on how to install some of these plugins for the different blogging softwares. For instance, after uploading some of my plugins, I just can’t see them in the plugins dashboard…what do I do next?

  4. @ Debo

I have only ever used wordpress and I love the software and plugins too. They always amaze me. Not great at returning messages for help though!

    @ Steven

What do you mean? What browser do you use? It shows at the bottom right of my comment box on my view.

    @ WD Favour

Thank you. You are always so complimentary! I agree with you on the installation guide. And those that do have a guide, are written in - CODE - literally! What blogging software do you use?

Thank you and I’m glad I could help. Yes I know the hunt through WordPress is overwhelming!

    @ Stephen

I use Firefox 3 too but I don’t see it, on Explorer either. Maybe it’s the size of the screen? I’ll check it out at work tomorrow. Thanks.

  11. @ Sunny Kapoor

That is what the blogoshere is all about. I share, you share! I’ll definitely check it out!

  12. Yeah. The submit button is at the middle of the form.

    Using Firefox here.

I’m gonna use the Related Posts plugin. Looking neat here. :)

  13. @ Steven and Daniel

Well it is definitely not the browser. I have a 17″ monitor and my submit button is just below the comment box, lower left corner. That is going to drive me crazy now!

  14. Thank for this post. It’s a big help to a newbie to WordPress like me!

  15. @ Evan

You are so welcome. There are so many to go through, I hope it saves you a lot of time.

  16. Thank you for the inspiration and motivation. Actually, thanks to all the comments as well. I have close to no idea what I’m doing as far as promotion, organization of content, socializing etc… This is a big help.

  17. @ Chip

Thank you for visiting! I checked out your website. Looks like you have web design down! That is one of my stresses! I love to tweak but tweakin doesn’t always love me! In fact right now, my RSS has an error message and I can’t figure it out! It was working up until Friday morning, even reloaded my Thursday nite backup, didn’t work. That will be my weekend aggravation!
