We all have the same amount of time,
24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week – ect, ect. How we spend our time is “our choice”. Yeah, Okay, it is but it isn’t. It’s not like you can spend your time at the mall instead of going to work because you choose to! I guess literally, that’s possible. Of course for every choice there is a consequence, for every action there is a reaction.
Often, people try to cram everything into their day. Sometimes you have to choose. What is more important? Do you even know how you spend your time? You have to figure this out before you can make changes.
I keep thinking I wish I had more time for reading or more time for me or more time! I am not going to get more time, I just have to decide what is more important and use my time for the important stuff! That is easier said then done.
I have made plenty of plans and schedules only for them to fall apart by the end of the first day. That is discouraging, I will have me time for the first hour, housework the second hour, work work for the next LONG 8 hrs, more chores-dinner, laundry, for the next hour, ect.
That schedule is too rigid. Then I regroup and decide to try it a different way, a less rigid time schedule.
Okay, Plan B:
I make a new plan – a plan for one hour of me time to start. That is the first “task” on my daily to-do list. It doesn’t matter when I get the hour in as long as I get the hour. That’s flexible. That should work. Sounds like a good idea – in theory. Actually, I do get my hour. I insist on it. It’s as good for me as for everyone around me, so I don’t usually get too much grief.
Part Two of my plan:
Natural at Thinking Out Loud Blog has a great plan. Instead of stressing about the overwhelming amount of daily household chores, make them weekly chores. You don’t have to dust every day (thank goodness). Once a week is more than enough. So Natural says to have a dust day, have a vacuum day. That takes a good deal of stress away.
Dreaded Task Trick:
I also recommend setting aside a small amount of time for the dreaded project. I have paper stacks that accumulate throughout the week, mail, bills, cards, blah, blah, blah! By the time I get to it, the pile is ugly! And I find something much more “important” that takes my time. Now it’s about 2-3 weeks worth of “stuff” and I don’t know where anything is. I decided to dedicate 15 minutes a day until the pile is put away nice and neat. That little plan is working nicely. I know I only have to do this little chore for 15 minutes and I’m free! I can handle that!
What do you do to reduce your stress with your daily responsibilities?

I still struggle with that. I need to work on scheduling and prioritizing. So I have no answers for you, but when you find some, post them, I’ll be watching.
I like Natural’s idea. A day for each chore, that will save some time, if only I can stick with it.
@ Eric
Maybe I will get some suggestions, so yes please check back. Natural’s idea eliminates a lot of stress. The same thing with the 15 minute deal you make with yourself. Most people can deal with 15 minutes!
hey blogger newbie. i love the new changes to your blog. it seems like the more you cram into your schedule, the less you are likely to do. i think that if you’re not used to having a schedule, its best to start out slow (breaking up things into smaller tasks) until you get used to doing them and get familiar with how long each task might take.
@ Natural
Thank you! I’m still working on my layout trying to figure out a few things but I love it! You are the only one who noticed or who commented!
You are totally right about the expected time frame. I always, always underestimate the time it is going to take to complete a task..
