You Are Not Going to Believe This!

Yesterday, we discussed the book – The Secret – in the post “Do You Have A Secret”. If you recall, I had decided to test the “law of attraction” and ask for $25,000.00.

My husband doesn’t particularly care for “motivational” or “positive thinking” books. I read them all the time. Knowing he wouldn’t be interested and probably even roll his eyes, I wasn’t looking forward to answering him about what I was reading. I briefly told him the name of the book I was listening to. He has never heard of The Secret and doesn’t know what the book is about.

Having said all that, I started to tell him about the $25,000.00 windfall that we were going to be blessed with. He asked me where or how I was going to get this new found wealth. I told him I didn’t know where or how and that I wasn’t concerned about that part anyway, but since he asked, I had a feeling that I was going to win the money. I don’t know why I had that feeling, I just did. It was amazing to me that my husband even participated in the conversation at all. Is The Secret changing my energy field around me? Amazing as that is, that’s not the “You are not going to believe this” part.

So we were off to our County Fair for the evening to grab dinner and whatever entertainment we might find. We like to “people watch” so there would be plenty of entertainment. Shortly after dinner, it started to rain..no surprise. We decided to tour the craft barns and stay dry! We were greeted by an acquaintance who told me we had arrived just in time. There was a raffle ticket with my name on it two booths down. I’m not much of a raffle person, especially for crafty stuff but she then told me the first prize was – $25,000.00!

I was shocked, needless to say. I looked at my husband and went to the booth and bought a ticket. Actually, I bought all the tickets the attendant had. His shift was ending and he only had 4 or 5 tickets left so I bought what he had. Too many coincidences happening and I haven’t even finished the book. Is the law of attraction putting me in places and drawing me towards the $25,000.00?

If you haven’t read or watched The Secret, you can get a copy here at Amazon. One of my favorite parts of The Secret is the section on thinking yourself happy thoughts and spreading happy thoughts. If you spread the “joy” with the people you interact throughout the day, where will your joy be at the end of the day?

I’m not completely sold on “The Secret” and all it preaches, but one thing is for sure – I like the part about thinking happy. I have tried it many times, many times a day, day after day. It works. When I am pressed to come up with something happy or funny to replace my not so happy thoughts with, I sing the chorus verse of “I feel good” by James Brown. Now that has to make you laugh. And if you could hear me sing it, you would definitely laugh!

Has anyone else read the book and had any experiences with the “law of attraction”? Any thoughts? For or against, that’s what this forum is about -share your story.

i remember when you were telling me about that day at the fair.. so strange isn’t it

  2. Good Morning Danielle

Very strange, I’m still waiting for my $25,000.00 though! According to The Secret, how I receive the money is not my concern, although I am looking at a few different avenues – keeping my eyes open for opportunity. That is the message I get. Without being aware, I might not take or even notice an opportunity that presents itself. Mo magic there!

Interesting stuff… now I’m more intrigued!

oh darn, i thought you were going to say you won. i was coming right over. lol

i believe in positive thinking, but i’m not sold on everything the secret preaches.

some people sit around and wait for stuff to happen just cause they believe. not gonna happen. if you work with and toward your goals you’re more likely to see success.

  5. @ Ross

Yeah, it is a must read, especially if you like positive thinking!

    @ Natural

I didn’t win (yet) the drawing isn’t until February 09! I totally agree with you on positive thinking and that the secret does have a few “out there” theories. I don’t like to sit around, I’m always in a hurry, so I’m not waiting for the drawing in February. That $25,000.00 can come from any number of different avenues (all of which I am actively exploring!) :)

Okay that’s it, I am finding time today to listen to it. It has been sitting in my Ipod waiting patiently for me.

Thank you for the push, you are in the right place at the right time. I’m Stumbling you again. Maybe blog revenue will be part of the $250k

  7. @ Daniel

Not YET! the drawing is in February :)

    @ Debo

It is very motivational! and I would rather have the $25K from blogging so Stumble On blogging buddy!

    Thank you.

My mother-in-law read the book. She plays the lotto a lot and ever since reading it, she has become quite lucky winning small amounts on nearly every single ticket she buys. If only she hit the jackpot.

We’re trying to apply the principles of The Secret to our business, but haven’t been trying seriously enough to see any results. I think we’ll try a bit harder now!

    Thanks for the post.

I watched a chunk of “The Secret” on DVD. I definitely believe that a positive outlook can have tangible effects in our lives.

If you haven’t seen the documentary “What the bleep do we know!?”, I highly recommend it. Similar subject matter.

  10. @ Dominick

I really do think the “mind is a powerful thing” I have a quote on my About Me page from Emerson that is so true. I think using the principles of The Secret in your business is a great idea. It may just be the extra confidence you need to succeed or to try things you normally wouldn’t have even thought of! Good luck. Let us know of some of your successes!

    @ Mike

Just the positive outlook is worth the read! I’ve never heard of that documentary. I’ll definitely check it out. I love that kind of stuff…Thanks.

I think the laws of attraction apply in every situation. If you think good things will happen to you they will!
    For example:
I injured my shoulder last year and was out of work for several months. I got very down and started to think I was never going to get back to work and was going to end up with a lot of finincial difficulty. As time went on my negative thoughts came true. Then my mam gave me a copy of The Secret and I started to change my attitude. I started believing I was going to get better and find a new job that I could do with the shoulder injury.
Within 2 months a new job just fell into my lap! One that didn’t hurt my shoulder. My shoulder even stopped bothering me! My new job is totally different to my old one and is incrediably enjoyable. Life is great now and its all down to positive thinking!

  12. @ Webdesigner

I totally agree and I am so happy for you. I have a few doom and gloom peeps around me (hard to be around) and I have made it my mission to give them the gift of positive thinking. I’m succeeding with one and the other – not so much.

I am thoroughly convinced that I will become a full time blogger eventually (within a year) and good things are happening because I believe they will.

  13. Penny says:

Hey I think I have a tic for that same drawing! lol. Good Luck!

  14. @ Penny

I can let you listen to “The Secret” and maybe you will also win! I have it on dvd and audio book. The book is better, they always say that, but it’s true…
