When I write a post, I have three essential tools that I cannot write without. I write drafts of all of my posts first and let them percolate for at least a few days. Sometimes I change my mind about the topic, sometimes I add more value to the post by thinking it over for a few days.
My first tool is a thesaurus
Like most writers, I sometimes get stuck on the “right” word. Or I have used the same word too many times so I would like a different word that means the same. I have a few favorite resources that I use on a regular basis:
Next I need to find photos for my post
I like the affect that photos or
graphics have on the appearance of a post. I have read plenty of posts with graphics and plenty without. I prefer the posts that have graphics. I have even written posts from graphics or photos that I have discovered. A picture is worth a thousand words, right? I also have a few favorite sites to surf for photos or graphics.
My third tool is a website for quotes
I like to end all of my posts with a quote that is hopefully somewhat relevant to the topic of the post. I really like quotes.
They are very inspiring to me. I just started a series – Monday Motivation. I have written posts based on quotes that motivate me. I started a business once from a quote. Actually, it was the final indication that starting my own business was the right thing to do.

so very proud of you for having 100 posts. I never realized that you started it on june 1st. i knew you started one of your businesses on june 1st but didn’t realize you started blogging then also. you are doing a great job.
@ Danielle:
Thank you! Dave couldn’t believe I had 100 already either! Started the first insurance business on June 1, 1986, the second insurance business June 1, 1998 and now BloggerNewbie on June 1, 2008. I think that means something!
These are three necessary tools, but I found that it is very difficult to add pictures to WordPress on my setup. Do you have any suggestions?
@ Danny Allen
You are using WordPress? I am using version 2.6.2. I download the images to my hard drive then upload them thru the wordpress image feature. Does that answer your question? If not, I will try to email a more descriptive answer.
Yes that answers my question, but it won’t solve my problem. Thanks for your concern.
@ Danny Allen
I guess I don’t understand your problem then? I’ll shoot you an email..
Thanks for the links. I have been using dictionary.com, but it’s always nice to get another source. I love to try new words, and can spend hours looking for just what I want. The quotes are a nice touch, I may just have to using them also.
Thanks for the tips
That quote thing is very interesting, I’ve always wondered where people get great quotes from…and there I was thinking I couldn’t be bothered to go back though my library…duh! Thank you:)
@ Eric
I always hunt for words and graphics and just the right quote! That takes most of the time I spend on writing posts!
@ Webdesigner
I love quotes. They are always a good pick-me-up!
