All about SEO

SEO?

First and foremost – what is SEO? According to WikipediaSearch engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (“organic” or “algorithmic“) search results for targeted keywords. Search Engine Optimization. hmmm.

So you want to optimize your search engine results? How do you do that? Why do you need to optimize your search engine results?

In other words, how will people find you? How do you get your blog to appear at the top of the list when people use search engines?

How do you get your blog to appear at the top of the list when people use search engines?

Content: Google likes content, original, one of a kind, unique, amazing content! Content that people will actually want to read, content readers will benefit from. Interesting and informative posts are an advantage to everyone. Your readers will learn and/or be entertained and Google will give you higher search and page rank results! If you create compelling content you will gain readership and eventually backlinks. According to Wikipedia – backlinks (or back-links (UK)) are incoming links to a websiteweb page. In the search engine optimization (SEO) world, the number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page (though other measures, such as PageRank, are likely to be more important).

Google likes frequency. Not only does Google like unique content, Google likes frequent content. Makes sense. The more you write, the more you get noticed. If you can’t write every day, try at least every other day. Not only will Google like it, your readers will like it. Posting every day will build your blog’s directory and build credibility with Google. Obviously, useful and entertaining content will get people to come back daily to see what else you are blogging about. If for some reason you can’t post original and useful content day after day you may want to consider a guest writer.

Wordpress has built in search engine optimization. The tags you enter in each post are keywords for search engines. Correctly optimizing your blog postings and targeting high searching keywords will result in higher Google placement. Of course it takes more then just correct keyword placement but keyword usage and placement is a tremendous help in using Google’s search engine to your advantage. What words or phrases will people be using to search for information? If you were researching a certain topic, what would you key in the google search bar.

It is necessary to make sure that the keywords you use have been placed properly in your post so that Google will understand the significance of that keyword.

  • Use keywords in the Title
  • Use keywords in the first 90 characters of your post
  • Use keywords frequently in your post (if it makes sense and flows)
  • That’s it! Write great stuff, do it often and actually include keywords that people will use to find your information! How simple is that.

One other thing you should know. This will take time! Unless of course you can write 50 posts a day. You will gain page ranking sooner than me…
