Less is More

Social Networks:

I am still trying to figure them out. I can see the benefit of social networks. It’s obvious. Once you start and establish relationships, you will gain visitors. This, of course, takes time as with any relationship, but anything worth doing is worth doing right. This is one avenue of blogging that quality out weighs quantity. There are so many social networks you could literally spend hours every day trying to keep up. I have decided to pick 3 or 4 different social networks and participate as much as I can. Just popping in and out is a complete waste of time. You may as well not go at all. And if it is your intention to go just so you can gain traffic, you will be pegged a spammer right away. It is so transparent and serious bloggers don’t have time for that useless waste of time!

Commenting on other blogs is vital to the success of your blog so I don’t know if I would say “less is more”. Probably not. But you still need a balance. Without commenting on other blogs it will be difficult to gain traffic. Without traffic you have no blog other than for yourself. At the same time, you need to balance your time. After all, you need to blog too. If you don’t blog, you won’t need traffic!

I consider myself to be an organized person. Well, at least until I started blogging! I read a post about time management and getting organized on Problogger titled “How Batch Processing Made me 10 Times More Productive”. I can tell you I have read it many times and it has made a tremendous difference in my blogging. The one tip that really made a difference was about setting aside time to write posts. That is the one task I stress about. I like to and want to – post everyday. I have ideas and content, I just need uninterrupted time to put it all together. I haven’t perfected my routine yet but I am working on it and I am a little better than I was in the beginning. I am still trying to measure the amount of time each task takes. I don’t know if you have ever noticed, but the internet can suck up a great deal of time without your noticing!

My advice and my experience have been – less is more. Limit yourself to a handful of social sites, pick and choose a few blogs to interact with and get organized!

The life and times of a blogger are exciting and packed full of activities. Do you have any other hints about keeping up with your blogging daily to do list?
