The duties of a one person blog… The behind the scenes work that goes into a blog is mind boggling! You think you know but you have no idea..As I sit at my table on the deck of a diner downtown, I contemplate all the duties of a one person blog. It still amazes me. My only guess with these huge blogs with huge numbers is they have to have huge staffs. Or they outsource a good deal of their duties. I can’t decide which part of running a blog is the most time consuming or most overwhelming and I also can’t decide which part I love the most cause I love it all from web design to actually writing to socializing and promoting my blog. It gives me a little giggle of joy when someone comments on my blog or when someone likes my post and will actually digg it! That is so exciting!

Web design, even with WordPress (Thank God and the developers!) is still a daily challenge. Learning and understanding HTML and CSS is necessary to be able to edit or change your web design. Html & CSS are also necessary when you are posting to change font color, style, etc.

ScribeFire – an attachment to FoxFire (an awesome web browser) – is also a wonderful tool that makes posting just a little easier.

Yeah posting – another blog duty. I would say the main duty! Without posting there would be no blog. I post from my daily experiences in the blogosphere and my daily experiences take me all over the blogosphere. I like to visit my favorite blogs. I have narrowed my favorite blogs down to 10 and tagged them on del.icio.us (a web based bookmark software) under daily-blog. I have many other tagged blogs but they are categorized simply – blogs. Part of my daily routine is to visit my daily-blog list, see what my “idols” are currently speaking about, learn a few things, comment if I have anything worthwhile to say or contribute, just hangout and explore their sites. I like to have a mixture of sites – some overwhelmingly popular sites, some relatively new sites and sites in between – all of course about blogging and the “How to’s” of blogging.

Aww – the social life of the blogger – gotta love it! I still haven’t figured out these blogging sites. I barely figured out how to add people on Twitter but I still don’t know how to find people? People have found me somehow and we add each other as followers. To be honest, I haven’t given it enough time to research and learn the software. I am not sure so far of the benefit of Twitter, the way I am using it anyway. But I am still too new to judge. And then there are sites like Digg, Technorati, and Stumbleupon. I have these figured out even less than Twitter! But again, I have not spent enough time to warrant an opinion. These sites are massive and I need a day to play around on them. A day without any other responsibilities or distractions. I should take a secret vacation day from my “real” job.

What other daily duties does the one person blogger have? What else do you do to keep your blog running smoothly on a daily basis?
