What is ScribeFire?
June 28, 2008 by BloggerNewbie
What is ScribeFire? It is a must have for any blogger! My opinion from my initial review of ScribeFire – so far – I like it. ScribeFire is a wonderful add on to Firefox. It enables you to “scribe” your post directly into your blog – just like you are typing into a word processor. It puts a lot of the html code in for you.
There are two different views to type into Scribefire.
- You can type in the post area and it will look just like you are typing in any word processor. ScribeFire is putting the html code in by the way you are typing, ex: paragraphs, aligning, font, etc. Basically a WYSIWYG format.
- The next format is similar. You still type your post in the post area but you see the html codes as you are using them. It is a good way to learn html. It is still automatic, but as you are making a paragraph or a numbered list you see the html code instead of finished product!
It’s all a matter of preference in how you want to view your post. There is a third tab that shows you the finished product before you actually publish to your blog.
You can insert photos or links with a click! So much easier!
Another cool feature..with a web page open (ScribeFire sits on top of any other page) you can right click and click the ScribeFire option then blog this page and you will automatically insert a link and tag line to that site in your post! How cool is that? So if you are referring to someone’s page or article, it will automatically link to that page for you! Not only cool, but saves soooo much time!
ScribeFire is a stand alone product, you have to have the web open but not your blog. After you install the add on in FireFox an icon will appear on the bottom menu as well as in your right click menu. Your post does not attach to your blog until you publish. I was writing a “note”, decided I had better to go work and I would finish the post on my break. Wrong. It wasn’t on ScribeFire on another computer..You can edit something already published to your blog, whether you wrote it in ScribeFire or not, but for drafts, no. They need to be completed on the computer you started with. Switching computers is probably not a common problem, but thought I would give everyone a heads up. It surprised me.
All in all and what I have learned so far, I really like it. I will definitely recommend this software to all BloggerNewbies! What software has made your blogging life easier? Share some of your secrets.

June 26, 2008 by BloggerNewbie
Another software in the blogosphere that is all the buzz. In my minimal research of “Twitter”, I discovered that this “new” software has been around for awhile. Although, I have to admit, I had never heard of it before I started this blogging career. I am learning so much!
I have only been on Twitter for a few weeks. I have much to learn but so far I am gathering that this social network has many hands.
Twitter, first and foremost, is a social network. It is a means for friends, families and colleagues to stay connected – in 140 characters or less. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like that part or not, cause I kind of like to talk but yeah – it’s a good idea. 140 characters is all I have time for anyway.
Twitter can also be a medium for introducing or expanding your blog network. In the side panel your profile is listed along with your “followers”. I am a little skeptical about the reason some users having such a large ratio between “followers” and “following”. I don’t want to follow or have followers simply to have a large number showing. I also don’t want a “spammer” reputation.
Twitter is a medium for sharing and exchanging information. It is a good place to get answers and a good place to help someone with a topic they are struggling with. My plan is to interact with other bloggers, get to know some of them and their sites and hopefully they will want to get to know me and my site.
Twitter is also a means to drive traffic to your blog. Be Careful! Take your time. Build relationships – don’t just add followers. You don’t need to start your blog being known as a spammer.
What are your reviews of Twitter? What do you use it for?
I’ll post about Twitter again after I have had more experience with using it. But in the mean time “Follow me on Twitter”!

The 5 P’s Of A Successful Blogger!
June 20, 2008 by BloggerNewbie
The 5 P’s of a successful blogger!
Do you have the 5 P’s? What are the 5 P’s? I’ve listed passion as the main “P” you need to become a successful blogger in previous posts. What else do you need?
Yes, passion is first of course…
According to Encarta Dictionary – PASSION – “intense enthusiasm: a strong liking or enthusiasm for a subject or activity – a passion for blogging!” Well, I put the blogging part in there! When you have passion about a subject or task, others can see it, feel it, believe it. You may not have creative writing abilities, or be able to churn out page after page of original thoughts, but in your assembly of those thoughts, your passion will stand out and people will want to read what you write.
Patience is second on my list… According to Encarta Dictionary – PATIENCE - “capacity for waiting –
the abiltity to endure waiting or delay.” Anything that is worth having is worth waiting for. Blogging is not a “get rich quick scheme”. Blogging is not “fame overnight”. There are many ways of getting noticed: if you write worthwhile posts, and make yourself noticed, comment on other blogs, share on Twitter you are bound to gain readership. Be patient! Blog and it will come.
Perseverance is third to me… According to Encarta Dictionary – PERSEVERANCE – “determined continuation with something – steady and continued action or belief, usually over a long period of time.” Oh yeah! You definitely need perseverance. Keep at it. If your expectations are realistic, perseverance will be less of a struggle. If you expect to be an overnight blogging success, you might be disappointed. It’s just going to take time. Hang in there!
“Patience and perseverance have a magical effect
before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.”
John Quincy Adams
Persuasive is fourth! According to Encarta Dictionary – PERSUASIVE – “able or tending to persuade – having the ability to persuade people or the effect of persuading them.” Isn’t life so much easier when you are able to influence someone and convince them of your way of thinking? Or at least one way of thinking.
…and last but not least…
Proactive is fifth. According to Encarta Dictionary – PROACTIVE - “taking initiative – taking the initiative by acting rather than reacting to.” Think ahead – look around, keep your eyes open. Not only is being proactive a diversion for disaster, it is also a great preparation tool. You know how many posts you want to write in a week. You don’t have to wait till the day they are due…(remember school?) Be Proactive, get a few things done ahead of schedule and when unexpected events come up, you will be ready.
Do you have what it takes to be a successful blogger? Do you have the 5 “P’s”?
